Many who have attempted having an emulator to play with The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess on their personal computer have run in the same issue: agonizingly slow play. Prior to giving up, try out this advice to make the game run faster. While some areas in the game, like running through Hyrule area, may still run somewhat slowly, these changes will definitely make the game more playable and enjoyable. Many places, such as within temples, will easily run at full speed after implementing the following hacks.

Dolphin Emulator

Dolphin is the main emulator for GameCube along with Wii games. Instead of using one of the newest variants to perform Twilight Princess, yet, use Dolphin 3.0. This ancient version of Dolphin lacks the picture punch of later variants, but it will permit a more graphically-complex match like Twilight Princess to play faster. It’s true, you are forfeiting images for speed, but it may be necessary if the game plays too slowly otherwise. (IMPORTANT! Make sure you read the UPDATE section below about Dolphin 5.0.)

Settings for Dolphin

  • Click on”Options” at the peak of the start up window, then click on”Configure.” The very first tap shows General settings. Make sure both”Enable Duel Center” and”Enable Idle Skipping” are assessed. Then, further down check”JIT Recompiler.” Leave the rest on default settings.
  • Click again on”Options,” and then visit”Graphics Settings.” Leave the rest on default settings.
  • This next step is very important. Click on the game in the Dolphin startup window, and then click “Properties.” Click it, and then scroll down to the very bottom. At roughly the fifth on the base, you will see”EFBToTextureEnable = False.” Delete”False” and type”Authentic” in its place, so that you have”EFBToTextureEnable = True”

Yet again, we’re forfeiting images for speed, but it is needed. If you are using the latest version of Dolphin, this previous hack will make the map become a futile pixely square, however in 3.0, it is at least weakly visible. If you take a look at the screenshots, you will observe that the map has been faded, but in most places, it is possible to make it out well enough to get by. You’ll also see that the modifications we’ve made so far produce the character’s eyes, carpeting, wall hangings, along with a few other graphics incomplete (with vacant flat lines cutting the graphics). It is a small issue to put up with, however, once the game may be too slow to even play without using these adjustments.

UPDATE!!

If you utilize Dolphin 5.0 (or a later version, I’d imagine), click the game title as you want in the steps above (on your primary Dolphin window match list), go to properties, and then look at the”Game Config” tab. Now, near the bottom, you will find a”Hyrule Field Rate Hack” patch allowed. Leave the drop-down alongside it “playable”, but go to the”Patches” tab. Ensure that the”Hyrule Field Speed Hack” is checked (the default option might leave it unchecked, since it did on mine). Continue to utilize the general Dolphin settings outlined above and then follow the suggestions below, but this patch needs to dramatically speed up gameplay, especially in notoriously slow Hyrule Field areas.

Additional Tips for Faster Gameplay at Twilight Princess

  • This first tip might seem rather simple, but it could definitely help. Make sure no other applications are running on your pc and that no other windows are available. Also, in case you have been operating your pc for some timethen leave it off or on sleep mode for some time to let it cool down and then begin fresh. Instantly run Dolphin before opening anything, like your browser. This can easily make the difference between the game running slower or quicker. Additionally, be sure you are not approaching the limit on storage space, and do maintenance such as operating CCleaner, deleting temp files, defragmenting, and making sure no unnecessary programs are running on startup. A faster computer means a faster game.
  • Secondly, if possible, avoid running through Hyrule field (or other large open places ) at the daytime. Unlike other Zelda games, getting to nighttime might mean waiting around for a while, but in case you have a lot to do in Hyrule field–like catching Poes or bugs, then the wait will be worth it and you will run around much faster without the harsher daylight graphics. If you don’t like waiting about, then float by simply using the night when you find yourself inside. Use that time to care for these”Hyrule field jobs.”

Question: When I launch The Legend of Zelda in 3.0 it states that memory card is corrupted. What could I do about it?

Response: I’m not sure there is anything you can do except to try another version of Dolphin, or attempt 3.0 on a different computer. But be sure to check the upgrade section of this article (about version 5.0 or after ) as that might work better for you than attempting to operate 3.0
