The lead actress, Laura Dern, delivers a lovely character that takes us to the actress’s prowess to give us even these romantic dramas that don’t require her to play the best role of her career. Being an established writer in love with the always dashing Liam Hemsworth provides us with a decent character we can sympathize with and sometimes identify with. The couple isn’t overwhelmed with complete chemistry, but they allow us to validate their romantic moments and their witty dialogues, which are the film’s great strength.
It helps a lot that its director knows how to keep the rhythm and capture this world of writers looking for inspiration or finding themselves
The story has its ups and downs, but I think it’s balanced in its final gist, giving us a drama that gives us a fun time without big demands and big expectations of what he ends up with. As is often the case, he supplies himself with some simplistic clichés, but in the end, they contribute more than a disaster, which benefits the overall outcome of the film. A romantic drama that keeps promises, has good moments and gives us a believable story for a couple’s weekend or those who like this genre.
